BCSO Sheriff says 1-year-old killed by dogs left alone with 13-year-old

SAN ANTONIO- New information about how 1-year-old Jiryiah Johnson was killed at his babysitter’s house Monday by three pit bulls. At last check, 36 year old Heather Rodriguez is still in jail charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury by omission.

We spoke to a neighbor, David Fisher, who says he’s heard the dogs be aggressive while outside, but he still can’t believe the dogs managed to attack a 1-year-old and kill him .

“It’s what keeps going through my mind how could you keep dogs like that in your house like that if they’re vicious,” says Fisher.

Fisher thought the 1-year-old was going to make it.

“I saw him bring him out, I was out here and he was moving, there was a lot of damage you could tell,” says Fisher.

That damage so severe, the little boy died at the hospital from dog bite injuries Monday night. His babysitter, 36-year-old Heather Rodriguez arrested hours after the incident by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office. She’s been charged with injury to a child with serious bodily injury by omission. Sheriff Javier Salazar says this is the same level as being charged with murder.

“The parents knew the babysitter had dogs, but they didn’t know the dogs were problematic,” says Sheriff Salazar.

Sheriff Salazar says Rodriguez’ 13-year-old daughter was the only person home with the baby at the time of the attack.

“She made every effort possible even lifting that baby up over her head but my understanding is that the dog actually climbed up onto something and was able to get the baby out of her hand and tear the baby out of her hand, this little girl was put in a situation where she went from that bedroom, to a bathroom, to another bedroom and was chased every step of the way by these dogs who were continuing to bite her as well,” says Sheriff Salazar.

We went to the home, to check on Rodriguez’ family. No one wanted to talk. The Sheriff’s office says Rodriguez could face additional charges for injury to her 13-year-old daughter.

As for the dogs, the Sheriff’s office says the owner has given up legal rights to one dog, the other two dogs have been turned over to animal control.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
