(WJAR) — Neighbors in Barrington are searching for solutions after the town’s dog park was temporarily closed.
Dog owners are asking the town council for funding.
The Barrington Dog Park is closed for several months due to construction nearby, but dog owners say they need somewhere safe and legal to bring their dogs and want the town council to fetch the money to make it happen.
The dog park is located near the East Bay Bike Path and Haines Park athletic fields.
Dog owners say they’ve been bringing their dogs to those athletic fields in the meantime, but have been met with concerned neighbors and police, being told dogs are not allowed on the athletic fields.
The Town Council is considering an ordinance to ban dogs from the fields.
During last night’s meeting, members of the group “Friends of Barrington Dog Park” discussed their frustrations and asked the council to approve the build of a temporary dog park.
That dollar amount to fence the temporary dog park is estimated at about $5,600.
The dog park is slated to be closed until the Fall.
