JACKSON COUNTY, MI — Take your dog to sample beer at this upcoming Jackson County Animal Shelter fundraiser.
The animal shelter is hosting its fourth annual Bark & Brew from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at the Ella Sharp Museum’s Grand Community Room, 3225 Fourth St. The annual event helps raise money for the shelter’s emergency medical fund, Animal Shelter Director Lydia Sattler said.
“We take in all the strays that are in Jackson,” Sattler said. “Animal control is part of our operation as well, so we see so many animals that are either sick, neglected or injured… We don’t want to deny any pet the care that it needs because of a lack of funding. We try to make sure we’re ready for anything.”
At the event, people can bring their dogs with them while they sample a variety of Michigan craft beer. New this year is wine from Sandhill Crane Vineyards in Jackson, she said.
This year’s event will have a Western theme, featuring country-related décor and staff dressed in cowboy hats and bandanas. Dogs embracing the theme will be judged for a “Best Dressed” contest.
“We’re just going country this year,” Sattler said.
Live music, a silent auction, food trucks and door prizes will be at Bark & Brew. Adoptable pets are expected to be in attendance, too.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office K-9 officers will answer questions on site about the job, as well as Jackson County animal control, Sattler said.
Tickets are on sale now and include five samples, but visitors can purchase additional samples at the event. Advance tickets are $25, while tickets at the door are $35. A non-drinking ticket is available for $15, for those who still want to attend, but not sample.
Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite or at the animal shelter, 3370 Spring Arbor Road.
