Bark at the Park brings dogs to ballgame

Potter likes watching baseball.

The 3-year-old foxhound will often stare at the screen when a game is on, his owner Emily Imhoff said.

“It’s his favorite pastime; he watches it a lot at home,” Imhoff said, then clarified: “It’s a good napping sport– he likes to nap through games.”

The Jefferson City Renegades hosted Bark in the Park and an ice cream social during their game against the Sedalia Bombers Sunday at Vivion Field. It’s the one game a year dogs are allowed in the stands.

Potter was there sporting a blue Cardinals bandana.

Imhoff said she tries to attend most games because her husband is the pitching coach for the Renegades. Sunday marked the second game Potter was able to tag along.

“I’m hoping he’ll sit and watch the game today with me,” Imhoff said.

Katie Leigh, a member of the Renegades Board of Directors, said Bark at the Park started to accommodate fans who wanted to bring their four-legged friends to games.

The dogs aren’t allowed on the baseball field but simply help fill out the stands.

“We give everybody one day, one opportunity to bring the dogs to the park,” Leigh said, adding it’s less overwhelming that way.

Roughly a dozen dogs usually attend, Leigh said. Turnout largely depends on the weather, with overly hot days keeping animals inside.

“I personally didn’t bring mine due to the heat,” Karen Martin said, a member of the Renegades Brigade. “He’s too old.”

Robert and Christina Berry brought their 11-year-old schnauzer-shih tzu mix, Bailey, to the game. They drove from St. Louis to cheer on infielder Charlie Berry.

“This is our first one, and we just came in from St. Louis,” Robert Berry said. “We just drove into town to watch everybody play and we heard it was Bark in the Park, so we brought the bark.”

Charlie loves Bailey, and she was an easy travel companion, Robert Berry said.

“We love our dog, love baseball and love them together,” he said.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
