BARCS gets 100 new dogs in 2 days, now out of space

BARCS Animal Shelter is out of space after receiving 100 new dogs in 48 hours and asking the Baltimore community for help.

In a recent post on social media, BARCS representatives said most of the animals are large adult dogs who are scared, confused and really in need of a home for the holidays.

Urgent Out of Space: 100 New “Underdogs” in 48 Hours—This isn’t how we wanted to conclude Giving Tuesday, but this is our reality and we have to share it with you to save lives. In the past 48 hours, 100 new animals have entered BARCS. A majority of which are large adult dogs. All of them walked through our doors, seeing a room full of unfamiliar faces and smelling scents they’ve never encountered. They didn’t know why they were here, why they were placed in a kennel—likely their first ever. They’re scared, confused and overwhelmed. They don’t know what comes next.

But we do.

It’s our job to show them that BARCS isn’t their last stop. Our staff and volunteers are working tirelessly to make sure they are safe, cared for and ultimately find a positive outcome. We’ve been “playing Tetris” with every inch of our kennel and office space just to give them a chance. But the reality is, we are out of space—and we can’t do it alone.

Today’s Giving Tuesday theme was “underdogs”—the animals who need extra medical care, are overlooked, or take longer to adopt. It’s also about us. Back in 2015, a Baltimore Sun article called BARCS the ultimate underdogs for taking on more than seemed possible with limited funding and staff. We wore that title like a badge of honor.

BARCS says they are working really hard to get the animals adopted but need the community’s help to keep going.

The fees will be waived from Wednesday December 3rd through the end of the month.

Each adoption includes a microchip, spay/neuter and up-to-date vaccines.

BARCS says with 100 new mouths to feed and many of the animals requiring urgent medical attention, the costs are already mounting and becoming overwhelming.

But every dollar given is matched and helps provide the care they need.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
