BAYTOWN, Texas — An infant was hospitalized after being attacked by a dog Tuesday afternoon, according to the Baytown Police Department.
It happened around 3:50 p.m. on E. James Avenue near Highway 99 in the Baytown area.
According to police, a 6-month-old was attacked by a dog and transported to the hospital. The baby’s condition is unknown.
At this time, it is unclear what led to the attack.
Air 11 showed police vehicles along a street in a neighborhood. Police tape marked off a section near an apartment complex.
Baytown Animal Services took two dogs away from the scene. A neighbor told KHOU 11’s Amanda Henderson he helped the family get the baby girl to an ambulance and that the family had just moved into the complex.
“It wasn’t pretty. There was blood all over the baby’s head. Prayers out to the baby,” Neighbor Ken Sheltoe said.
We got a closer look at two dogs taken from the apartment complex on the ground as photos were taken of the dogs before Baytown’s Animal Services Department took them away.
Sheltoe described at least one of the dogs as “aggressive.”
“He needs to be put down,” Sheltoe said.
Neighbors said the baby had just turned six months in the same courtyard where neighbors stood in shock Tuesday about what happened.
One neighbor wanted to stay anonymous but said she made the 911 call after the mother ran to her apartment with the baby in her arms.
“She just had the baby in her hands saying ‘God I trust you, God I trust you God,’” they said.
Two adults, identified by neighbors as the baby’s parents, did return to the scene. We saw them taken to the apartment where police were going in and out of. They spoke with the officials and embraced.
As the scene cleared neighbors said the shock had not worn off.
“You said the dogs had just been brought here?” Reporter Henderson asked.
“Sunday, Sunday. There’s no telling what kind of environment they were in before,” the neighbor said.
City officials said an animal services report would help determine the fate of the dogs and if their owner would face any charges.
