K-9 Bruce tracked down Chris Christensen late Wednesday morning in dense vegetation near his home.
A rescue dog found an 87-year-old man Wednesday morning after he went missing the night before from his home near Graton, authorities said.
Chris Christensen, who has dementia and Parkinson’s disease, was taken to a hospital for exposure to the elements. Authorities have not received an update on his condition, which typically only occurs if it worsens, according to Sonoma County Sheriff’s Sgt. Juan Valencia.
Christensen left his home in the 5000 block of Vine Hill Road around 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s Office deployed drones, its Henry-1 helicopter, the search and rescue team, and an off-road motors unit to look for Christensen. About 15 Sonoma County Regional Parks staff also assisted. The Graton Fire Department joined the effort, and the California Rescue Dog Association provided three search dogs.
The K-9 Bruce from the association tracked down Christensen about 11 a.m. in dense vegetation near his home.
“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the people and agencies who worked together to find Christensen,” the Sheriff’s Office said.
