Authorities remove 24 dogs, other animals from unsafe conditions at Napoleon rescue organization

Authorities are conducting an animal cruelty investigation after finding the conditions had only deteriorated after the organization was first told to fix them.

NAPOLEON, Ohio — Authorities removed more than two dozen animals “in unsanitary living conditions” at a rescue organization’s residence in Napoleon on Tuesday, according to a press release from the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s deputies and Ohio Department of Agriculture agents had been informed that a dog fostering/rescue operation called Zesty Misfits was operating out of a residence on Park Street near the city’s Municipal Park, according to the press release.

An investigation at the residence found “several dogs inside and unsanitary conditions,” which the sheriff’s office says Zesty Misfits was asked to resolve. Authorities then followed up “weeks later” and “found the conditions had only deteriorated further.”

The sheriff’s office then conducted a search warrant because the animals’ health was at risk due to the conditions and removed 24 dogs, two cats and two lizards as part of an animal cruelty investigation.

“Several animals were found to be in poor health conditions and were evaluated by a veterinarian,” the press release says. It does not specify which animals or how many of them were in poor health.

The sheriff’s office says the animals are in the care of the Henry County Dog Warden and criminal charges are pending as the investigation continues.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
