Authorities are seeking the owner of a dog that was found abandoned in Naugatuck last week suffering from severe heat stroke and other signs of neglect.
The dog, estimated to be between 8 months and 1 year old, was found in the evening hours on June 3 off Great Hill Road, near Schildgen Pond, according to Naugatuck Animal Control.
The animal was rushed to Central Veterinary Hospital, as he was showing signs of severe heat stroke and what animal control described as “obvious signs of neglect.” He was underweight and had a poor body condition that included severe skin infections. The dog also had what was believed to be an old, untreated injury to the left side of his neck that caused a severe infection that also affects his left eye.
The dog has since made a recovery after initially being placed in ICU. He is now with Naugatuck Animal Control and is not yet ready for adoption.
Authorities are seeking the owner of the dog and are being assisted by the animal rights advocates group Desmond’s Army, which has offered a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the animal.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact Naugatuck Animal Control at 203-729-4324.
