An Auburndale man was arrested Tuesday for alleged animal cruelty, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.Bradford Thomas, 37, neglected to care for his two dogs, PCSO said. Thomas is in the Polk County Jail for alleged animal cruelty and alleged aggravated animal cruelty.PCSO said they were alerted to a starving dog by the Auburndale Police Department.A PCSO detective said they found two dogs in poor condition. Stella, a Great Dane, was found with cuts, scabs, fleas and swelling on all four paws. Bella, a terrier mix, was found with inflamed skin and hair loss.PCSO said the dogs were examined by a veterinarian. Stella weighed about half of what she should weigh and was given a body condition score of one out of nine, according to PCSO. Bella was given a score of two out of nine.Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd described Thomas’ actions as incomprehensible in a press release.”We will do everything we can to hold him criminally responsible,” he said. “We will also do everything we can to get these dogs healthy and thriving.”Both dogs are being treated in PCSO’s Animal Control facility. PCSO says Stella’s weight is increasing in treatment.
