WEST PALM BEACH — With Hurricane Milton approaching, Palm Beach County Animal Care and Control is looking for people to open their homes to a dog or cat for two to three weeks, with a minimum of 14 days.
Animal Care and Control, which has battled an overcrowding crisis since 2022, said its annual intake of homeless pets has increased by almost 2,000 since the COVID pandemic. With the storm approaching, the agency expects even more displaced animals in need of shelter.
“Fostering a pet saves two lives,” an agency spokesperson said Tuesday. “The one that goes to a foster home and the one that is placed in the open kennel spot.”

Fostering is free. The shelter provides the supplies that foster families need. Fosters provide the care and love necessary for a pet to feel safe.
To learn more about fostering an animal this storm season, call 561-233-1281 or email accfoster@pbc.gov. The shelter is located at 7100 Belvedere Road, West Palm Beach, FL, 33411.
