SHELBY COUNTY, La. (KSLA) – A man and a woman have been arrested in east Texas after dogs were found in “unsuitable” conditions at a kennel in Shelby County.
The sheriff’s office says Robert Lindley, 39, and Christal Gayle Lindley, 44, both of Center, have been arrested in this case.
Officials say on July 17, they were told about a dog kennel being operated in Center that was maintained by the Lindleys. They were reportedly housing dogs in unlivable conditions. An investigation by the sheriff’s office revealed most of the dogs being housed at the kennel were malnourished and appeared to have mange. The kennel was also not provided with adequate airflow, the sheriff’s office reports.
The Lindleys were arrested and charged with cruelty to non-livestock animals; they were booked into the Shelby County Jail.
One dog was removed from the kennel and returned to its rightful owner, the sheriff’s office says. Around 14 dogs are being turned over to Nicolas Pet Haven, an animal rescue organization out of Tyler. County Attorney John Price approved this, the sheriff’s office reports. There, the animals will be treated and put up for adoption.
