ARL suspending intake of large dogs due to overcrowding

CUMRU TWP., Pa. – Due to high volume and limited space at the shelter, the Animal Rescue League of Berks County (ARL) announced Friday the organization is pausing the intake of large dogs effective immediately through July 18.

On the 18th, the ARL says it will reevaluate population levels to determine if the pause needs to be extended. Officials say the pause includes owner surrenders and stray dogs from contracted municipalities.

The ARL will still accept injured, ill and bite cases for large dogs, as well as small dogs, cats and small animals.

ARL officials say residents from contracted municipalities can still call the Pet Help Center for resources when finding a stray pet.

The ARL will also provide cages, food and other resources so that finders are able to keep the animal while space opens at the shelter. Municipalities have already been notified of this change.

The ARL says this temporary pause is critical to ensure the shelter can save as many lives as possible, especially those who are most vulnerable in their care.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
