AVERY — The hardworking canine members of the Linville-Central Rescue Squad are now better equipped for their lifesaving missions, thanks to a generous donation that funded custom-fit safety boots and belay harnesses for the team’s search and rescue dogs.
“People really reached out to help our teams, and there were people who stepped up and said, ‘What do the dogs need?’ and what we needed at the time were fitted boots and heavy-duty harnesses,” SAR K9 Group Leader Richard Schaffer said.
Volunteer Melissa Bahleda said that no dogs were injured by debris, but they are now better prepared for future events like Helene.
