According to police, shortly before 6 P.M. Wednesday evening, officers responded to the 500 block of Central Avenue after reports that a man was attacked by several dogs. They witnessed the dogs attacking the man when they arrived. One of the officers fired a weapon in an attempt to stop the attack, striking at least one dog.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene. Police are expected to release additional details Thursday afternoon. 24 mixed-breed Pitbulls were discovered at the residence on Central Ave., 15 of them puppies.
Police Chief Eric Hawkins said the house was raided in May, due to drug activity, and “several dogs were seized for safe keeping,” but were later released from the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
Hawkins said that 8 or 9 dogs were surrounding the victim when officers arrived, preventing them from providing immediate aid. According to police, Provost was in the backyard next-door to the house where the dogs resided and where his body was found.
