MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The Alliant Energy Center is quite literally going through the “dog days.”
It’s hosting the annual Renaissance Cluster of Dog Shows where over 7,000 dogs have entered into the four day competition. Dogs, and their owners, come from 47 of the 50 states. Some have even come from Korea, Japan and Mexico to participate.
Harlequin Great Dane, Preeya, attended her second show today. The seven and a half month-old puppy placed second.
Her owner, Wanda Millman said they are both relatively new to the show world. Preeya is her second show dog.
“Honestly, I would just be happy if she was just happy in the ring participating, that’s what really matters,” Millman reflected.
The event hosts many seasoned competitors. Wisconsin native Kent Boyles previously won best in show at the Road to Westminster and Great American Dog Show with his dogs Rumor and Mercedes. Today, he brought his German Shepard Sassy.
“German Shepard’s are super empathetic, I mean if you’re having a bad day they come try to cheer you up and hang out with you,” Boyles said.
On Friday, Bucky the Badger will be making an appearance at the event.
The Renaissance Cluster of Dog Shows says next year will be even bigger. In 2026, the event will continue to take place at Alliant Energy Center in a larger space.
The event runs until Sunday night. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit their website.
