Thousands of plastic Easter eggs filled with goodies littered the grass surrounding Lizzi & Rocco’s Natural Pet Market’s Green Meadows location Sunday afternoon.
Hundreds of dog owners turned out in droves for the annual Dog Easter Egg Hunt. The event’s donation proceeds went to Unchained Melodies, a dog rescue organization. Visitors were required to have their dogs spayed or neutered and kept on four-foot leashes.

Dog owners await the go-ahead to begin the hunt Sunday at Lizzi & Rocco’s Natural Pet Market in Columbia. Lizzi & Rocco’s supplied the plastic eggs, treats and coupons, while Unchained Melodies supplied volunteers to stuff each egg with the prizes. The founder and director of the dog rescue, Melody Whitworth, said their three volunteers spent up to a collective 12 hours putting thousands of eggs together.

Dogs quickly led their owners to uncollected eggs, sometimes pausing to smell and play with other pets in the dense crowd. The entire hunt lasted roughly 10 minutes.
