VICTORIA, Australia (WKRC) – A woman who worked at an animal shelter pled guilty to attempting to sell human toes that had been eaten and regurgitated by dogs who had obtained them from their deceased owner.
According to the Australian Associated Press, the dogs were brought into the woman’s shelter after they ingested remains from their owner, who died of natural causes in their home. While at the shelter they regurgitated two human toes among other viscera, which was thrown away, per the outlet.
The woman, identified as Joanna Kinman, reportedly searched the trash to find the toes.
“She located two human toes and took them home and placed them in a jar containing formaldehyde,” the prosecutor said, per the outlet.
Kinman reportedly discussed the idea of selling the toes on the online black market with her daughter, and she believed she could fetch over $250 with them.
Police received a tip from an unknown source and searched Kinman’s house to find a range of animal samples like an alligator claw, a bird skull, and her children’s teeth, per the outlet.
Kinman was part of a Facebook group called “Bone Buddies Australia” that bought and sold specimens like the ones she had collected, and she reportedly sold a stillborn kitten and puppy in the group previously.
Kinman was charged with offensive conduct involving human remains.
