Animal rescue needs help saving 50 dogs in hoarding case

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – Paws 4 the Cause in Lexington is in the process of rescuing 50 dogs from a hoarding situation.

It happened in a county within an hour of Lexington.

Due to an ongoing investigation, Vice President and General Manager of Paws 4 the Cause, Anita Spreitzer says she cannot share the name of that county.

But, she says she’s working alongside the sheriff’s department to help these animals.

“They have a sadness to them and a fear,” Spreitzer says.

She tells us the dogs were living in deplorable conditions.

“The person that has been at the house [says] within a few feet of the driveway you can smell how bad it is,” Spreitzer says.

“One of them was a momma dog that had puppies.”

Spreitzer tells us the animals were kept in an outdoor pen.

Without clean conditions and warmth, “the puppies didn’t make it,” Spreitzer says.

We don’t currently know the identity of the property owner, but, “they’ve been warned already once about a month ago that the dogs need to be in a better situation, or else [the property owner[s]] were going to be charged,” Spreitzer says.

Spreitzer says her organization has saved eight dogs so far, but with limited space and resources, she’s asking for help.

Their biggest need is Purina Pro Plan dog food.

They’re also asking for monetary donations.

“We’re going to need to bring extra vaccines in and dewormers and [anti] flea and [anti] tick and different things that they’re gonna need before they can go to participating partners,” Spreitzer says.

While some of the dogs will go to rescue partners, Spreitzer is also asking folks to foster or adopt.

“We’re just trying to move them in and move them on and keep going so we can help them all,” she says.

After two or three long days of handling the case, what’s been keeping Spreitzer going is, “you just go into overdrive and you work as fast as you can and as diligent as you can for the animals sake.”

Spretizer tells us anyone interested in adopting or fostering dogs can apply on their website.

This is a developing story.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
