After a call for help from a Southern California animal advocate, Animal Rescue Corps (ARC) sprang into action, traveling over 2,000 miles from Tennessee to assist in a large-scale hoarding case involving more than 30 neglected dogs.
ARC, a national nonprofit based near Nashville, partnered with Priceless Pet Rescue, a Los Angeles-area rescue group, to respond to the urgent situation. The case was uncovered several weeks ago when the property owner, who had been caring for more than 50 dogs and 30 cats, was hospitalized with a medical emergency. While local groups had rehomed many of the animals, 35 dogs remained without placement until ARC intervened.
Upon arrival at the Colton, California property, ARC’s field team discovered dogs suffering from severe neglect — including chihuahuas, terriers, havanese mixes, pomeranians, and poodles — many of which showed signs of parasite infestations, untreated infections, dental disease, overgrown nails, and severe matting.
“We drove 2,000 miles in two days to answer this call for help,” said Tim Woodard, Executive Director of Animal Rescue Corps. “Large-scale hoarding cases often overwhelm local systems, and I’m grateful for the advocates who worked so hard to save these dogs. Now they have a bright future ahead of them.”
Priceless Pet Rescue took in 13 dogs and will make them available for adoption at their Southern California locations. The remaining dogs will be transported to ARC’s Rescue Center in Tennessee, where they’ll receive medical care, vaccinations, and evaluation before being placed with trusted rescue partners for adoption.
“It was clear these animals had been through so much,” said Lisa Price, Executive Director of Priceless Pet Rescue. “We’re proud to work alongside ARC to give them the second chance they deserve.”
Dubbed Operation Dusty Tails, this rescue effort highlights the importance of national collaboration to combat animal neglect and hoarding. Donations and volunteers are urgently needed to continue supporting animals like these. To help, visit animalrescuecorps.org.
