Animal cruelty charges filed against 2 people in Lenoir County, 2 dogs found dead

A Lenoir County man and woman were arrested and charged with animal cruelty on Tuesday after two dogs were found dead on their property, according to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.

Randy Avon Thompson, 45, and Mary Lou Thompson, 36, were taken into custody at their workplace following an animal welfare investigation by Lenoir County Animal Control that began on Monday.

The investigation uncovered two dead dogs on a property located on Southwood Road.

Animal Control officers charged both with four felony counts of animal cruelty and four misdemeanor counts of improper disposal of a domestic animal.

Randy Avon Thompson was denied bond and is currently held at the Wayne County Jail, while Mary Lou Thompson received a $10,000 unsecured bond.
