MARLIN, Texas (KWTX) – The Justice for the Marlin Dogs group marched from the Falls County Courthouse to the Marlin Animal Shelter to memorialize the animals in their care discovered in unsanitary conditions last year.
On Jan. 9, 2024, one dog was found dead in the Marlin Animal Shelter. Nine others were found malnourished in unsanitary conditions. Since the discovery, Justice for the Marlin Dogs have held rallies at the Falls County Courthouse every Saturday.
“Thinking about the conditions and the horrors that they had to live in for all those days, weeks and months, coming out here one day a week for a year is nothing for me,” Rally organizer Dorothy Sanders said. “Nothing for any of us.”
The group hung a wreath commemorating the dogs found at the animal shelter.
“They were living beings,” Sanders said. “They had a right to life. And we are here to remember that. And to honor that.”
The Texas Rangers have been investigating the incident since June 2024. Justice for the Marlin Dogs hopes the investigation will conclude in 2025.
“If they had concluded their investigation months ago then there probably would not be justice but the fact that they are still investigating says there’s something there,” Sanders said. “And the longer they investigate the more hope I have for justice.”
