Angels for Animals is temporarily suspending its dog adoption and intake due to kennel cough.

Kennel cough is a highly contagious respiratory disease found in dogs. Symptoms include a strong cough, sneezing, loss of appetite and lethargic behaviors.

Dogs contract the cough when other dogs congregate in places such as a park, training groups, dog shows or daycare facilities. Kennel cough spreads through direct contact or on contaminated surfaces like a food or water bowl.

The disease is highly treatable among adult dogs. However, it can become more severe in young puppies or immunocompromised dogs.

Angels for Animals is still taking applications. One of the managers will contact applicants to explain the timeline.

The shelter is not taking any dogs at this time. If you find a stray dog, it will need to be taken to a local county pound.

The shelter hopes to resume services soon.
