On Tuesday, 26 small-bred dogs locked in cages and living in filth were rescued from an Anderson County home.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at the residence of 46-year-old Dessie Kight and 61-year-old Christian Voitle along Old Williamston Road in Anderson on Tuesday, July 30. Officers arrived to assess the situation and discovered multiple small dogs locked up in cages and surrounded by filth.
Animal Control Unit was called out to observe the situation and found a urine-soaked carpet and several dogs needing medical attention. During a search warrant, they successfully seized 26 small-bred dogs, mainly Shih Tzu’s, and transported them to Anderson County P.A.W.S. for medical evaluation.
A magistrate judge signed a total of 26 warrants, and both Voitle and Kight are facing charges of animal abuse. The suspects were taken into custody at the Anderson County Detention Center.
The Anderson County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit handles and investigates all calls concerning domesticated animals or livestock.
