Alex Drummond Shares the Sweet Origin Story Behind Her Dog George

It’s practically impossible not to be an animal lover after growing up on the Drummond ranch! After being surrounded by cute cows, horses, and puppies her whole life, it’s no surprise that Alex Drummond ended up getting a furry friend of her own after tying the knot with her husband, Mauricio.

Speaking of the Drummond dogs, you may be familiar with Ree’s many basset hounds, including Fred and Rusty, and yellow labs, Duke and Lucy. Given that, you’d probably expect her oldest daughter, Alex, to add one of these familiar breeds to her family. Instead, she chose to adopt a gorgeous golden retriever named George at the beginning of 2023! Since then, George has become a staple in the Drummond family, delighting everyone with his antics and, most recently, his sweet relationship with baby Sofia.

While there’s no doubt she made the right decision in welcoming the happy-go-lucky puppy into the Scott household, her decision to adopt that particular breed still comes into question among fans. Recently, Alex took to her Instagram story to do a Q&A about her life, including plenty of details on motherhood (regarding both Sofia and George). One of the burning questions Alex answered was why she settled on a golden retriever, despite growing up with other breeds.

“I spent a summer in college interning in Dallas and living with my cousins who had a golden and fell in LOVE and immediately decided I needed a golden someday,” Alex wrote. Talk about love at first sight! Just a few years later, Alex made the move to Dallas to start a life of her own, which obviously included a fluffy golden retriever.

Looking back at George’s adorable puppy pictures, it’s wild to think how fast things have changed since he bounded into Alex Drummond’s life. From tiny puppy paws to full-on golden retriever energy, he’s become a constant source of joy!

“Best decision ever ✨,” Alex said.
