Alachua County woman reports a scary experience with two dogs at the Monteocha Park

GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) – Alachua County Animal Services has responded to reports of loose dogs that chased at least one woman at Monteocha County Park. The woman, who wishes to remain anonymous, has experienced multiple incidents with these dogs.

On Saturday morning, while walking her dog near the playground at Monteocha Park, she was chased by two large dogs, which caused her to fear for her safety.

In response to the reports of dogs being off-leash, the Animal Services team has increased its efforts to address the issue. Jason Maurer, the Parks and Open Space Director stated that when they receive calls about such situations, they act quickly to resolve the problem.

“Usually when we get emails like this we like to respond right away and try to get out there as quickly as possible,” added Maurer.

Director of Alachua County Animal Resources Julie Johnson says they have increased patrols and sent out teams at different hours to find any dogs that may be running loose.

“Most loose dogs are six houses apart from where they originally came from. Dogs do love to go out and play especially when they have the opportunity. We tell people it’s important to make sure your gates are closed and your doors are closed,” said Johnson.

Charles Wakeley, a 20-year resident, mentions that many people visit Monteocha Park. This brings in more dogs, but he has never encountered any dangerous ones.

“Let me say this about our community. Our community is such a loving community if you had a stray dog they probably would take it home and give it some ownership,” added Wakeley.

If you run into a stray or dangerous dog call animal shelter resources so they can deal with them.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
