After evading capture, wounded dog seeks forever home

TOWN OF WATSON, New York (WWNY) – A four-month-long journey to capture a stray dog with a tragic past is close to getting a happy ending.

Croghan Dog Control got a call about the pooch back in March. Immediately Jay Steiner and his wife jumped into action.

After four months of attempting to catch the dog with kennels and treats, the little guy showed up.

“Him being around the kennel, he got comfortable with it and he walked in and he finally tripped it. It set my game camera off and the chase was on,” said Steiner.

After Steiner and his wife drove out to get him into a pet carrier at 4 a.m., Grizz, as he’s now called, was officially captured.

Unfortunately, he wasn’t in the best shape when they found him.

“At first, ‘course he had a massive wound on his chest and we took him to Countryside Vet Clinics and they did a phenomenal job of fixing him up there,” said Steiner.

Grizz had been shot, and his wound infected but his being caught when he was by the Steiners made his recovery easier.

You’d think he’d be scared around people after all he’s been through. However, the Steiners got a different reaction when they let Grizz out inside their garage.

“He comes running at me and he jumped on me with his tail wagging and we knew immediately he was a super friendly dog. He ran over to my wife all happy to see her with his tail wagging. It’s almost like he’s happy to be found type thing,” said Steiner.

After some time, Grizz was eventually brought to the Lewis County Humane Society where he’s up for adoption.

“In the animal shelter business, we don’t like to keep animals prolonged here any longer than we have to because we don’t want him to be exposed to the chaotic environment that a lot of the dogs are exposed to. So the sooner he gets adopted and finds his forever home, the better off he is.”

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
