
Albuquerque –
At approximately 12:11 PM on May 24th, Albuquerque Fire Rescue units were dispatched to 1516 1/2 Broadway Blvd SE for reports of a possible structure fire involving a single-story, single-family residence. Battalion 1 arrived on scene and confirmed a working fire with smoke showing from all four sides of the structure.
Crews initiated an aggressive attack and achieved knockdown within eleven minutes of arrival. The fire caused significant smoke and fire damage throughout the entire structure.
During primary and secondary searches, firefighters located 17 dogs inside the residence. AFR crews successfully rescued 9 dogs; however, 8 were found deceased.
According to AFR, EMS personnel assessed two civilians on scene. Both individuals declined transport to the hospital. No firefighter injuries were reported.
The incident displaced two occupants, who made arrangements to stay with family members. Fire investigators determined the cause of the fire to be accidental.
