Aberdeen dog groomer lets animals visit one another after grooming

Aberdeen residents continue to benefit from another unique business downtown.

Four Dogs Grooming, located at 624 Sixth Ave. SW, is a luxury dog salon that offers full-service grooming. Owner Kayli Breitag opened up last summer after moving to the area in 2021.

Kayli Breitag, the owner of Four Dogs Grooming in Aberdeen, lets the dogs roam around the area after grooming.

She has worked with dogs for many years — including with rescues in Sioux Falls — as well as within the grooming industry. She has also dabbled in management, helping her develop the passion for a career in the industry.

“Moving to Aberdeen, we noticed a need for pet businesses here, so that’s kind of what pushed us to open as soon as we did after moving here,” Breitag explained. “Just building a good quality salon for other groomers to want to work in is my main focus.”

Four Dogs now has five full-time groomers, and per Breitag, is growing quicker than expected.

“Our biggest issue now is a lack of space to fit us,” she said. “We take as many clients as possible. We’ve had really great support from community. We’ve had a lot of ups. It’s been a great blessing for us.”

Fundraising is important to Breitag, along with helping to meet the needs of pets and the community as a whole.

The business is especially involved with fundraising events from now through the holidays.

October is adopt-a-pet month, and Four Dogs is offering a free first groom for any pets adopted through the Humane Society this month. They are distributing coupons to the Humane Society for when pets are adopted, and new owners can call Four Dogs.

You can also find Four Dogs staff at community events like the recent Pheasant Pup Crawl.

“What sets us apart is that we operate a free-roaming salon,” Breitag said. “We don’t cage the dogs while they are in our care… It creates a more light, fun atmosphere for the dogs and takes some of the stress off of it, especially the ones that don’t like the kennels. They get some play time with friends while they are here and can focus on a stress-free environment.”

Breitag estimates that 24-28 dogs come through her doors daily for grooming.

While the majority of customers are from Aberdeen, she says there are people who come to Four Dogs from as far away as Sioux Falls, Minnesota, North Dakota and smaller communities in the region.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
