Abandoned dogs get second chance at life thanks to trainer

RICHMOND, Va. (WWBT)—The saying goes, “Dogs are a man’s best friend,” but the truth is not every dog has a loving home.

That fact alone is why Kathy Walton, team leader at Caring Canines, is on the hunt to give abandoned dogs a second chance. For more than 15 years, Walton has been an advocate for dogs who are so often looked over.

Walton said her passion grew years ago when she learned pit bulls were being euthanized at a disturbing rate.

“Then I moved into senior dogs that nobody was taking out of the shelter. And then I started with deaf and blind born dogs that nobody wants to take out on the shelter,” Walton said.

Dogs under her training are now much-anticipated visitors at local schools, the Chesterfield County Jail, and for veterans who were wounded in combat.

Teresa Myers has witnessed the difference it’s making in their lives. It’s why she nominated Walton for the Acts of Kindness Award:

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
