FARGO — In honor of National Hot Dog Month, a senior community gathered to celebrate surrounded by dogs.
Riverview Place senior living community held its Paws for Lunch and free hot dog event Tuesday, July 23. They had hot dogs, cookies, and lots of food available for those who attended.
“We’ve got about 300 hot dogs. So lots of hot dogs, and we’re giving them away, free to all of our residents, family members, public,” said Riverview Marking Director Deborah Larson.
Larson said she has her own rescue at home which is why she asked if 4 Luv of Dog rescue could come today.
“I’m a big advocate for dog adoption. And then we also have Natural Pet Center here, Elevate Canine Training Academy,” said Larson.

4 Luv of Dog rescue and other pet stores teamed up with the senior community for the event. 4 luv of Dog brought along some of their furry friends for the community to meet and maybe adopt.
Riverview Place is one of the few senior living communities in Fargo that encourages them to have a pet companion.
“We encourage our residents that if they have any furry family members to bring them, to move in. We’re all very pet-friendly. We all love our dogs. Most of the staff here have pets as well, so it’s definitely important for seniors to be able to continue their lives with their pets,” Larson said.
In preparation for the event, the seniors had a cooking class yesterday where they got to decorate cookies in the shapes of dogs and bones.
