NEW CARLISLE, Ind. (WNDU) – When it comes to adopting a pet, they become an important member of the family.
It’s been one week since Joseph Kelly was knocked unconscious after getting into a car wreck with his adored pet, Lulu. But when he came to, she was nowhere to be found.
Now, Kelly is asking for someone to be his hero and get Lulu back home.
“I don’t have a wife, I don’t have kids, I don’t have a close family,” Kelly said. “That dog is my family, and I need her back.”
Kelly has been searching for his beloved Lulu since March 16. He says she went missing after his Jeep flipped around New Carlisle.
Kelly was knocked unconscious, but when he woke up, his first thought was Lulu.
She’s a 3-year-old German Shepherd Poodle mix who responds to squeaky toys and whistles, is very friendly, and wears a collar with a tag.
In the hope of someone finding Lulu, Kelly even posted on a Facebook group for missing and lost dogs.
Kelly is from Chicago and says he’s amazed how many people are actively looking for her.
“I live in a big city, and I can’t even tell you how blown away I am by the devotion shown by strangers to help someone that they don’t know and to find a dog that they don’t know,” Kelly said. “I was out today looking and people were stopping on the side of the road and going, ‘Hey, are you that guy looking for your dog?’ Like, I don’t even know how they knew it was me and they haven’t seen my photo, but I said, ‘Yeah,’ and they were like, ‘I was out here last night. I’ve been looking over here. My neighbors are looking over here.’”
Kelly is currently suffering from a brain injury and punctured lung caused by the accident, but the only thing on his mind is if Lulu is okay.
“I don’t care that my Jeep is gone. I don’t care that I’m hurt, my future is in jeopardy and my physical health,” Kelly said. “All I care about is that dog and getting her home to me.”
Kelly is offering a $1,000 cash reward for the safe return of Lulu, and if you or anyone has any information about Lulu, you can email joseph.kelly.773@gmail.com.
