Sawyer the dog is about as amusing as dogs get. “He’s real lazy, he looks like a big sheep,” Sawyer’s dad, Towns Ellis, told WESH 2. “He burps; he’ll just look at you and burp, it’s really weird.”But now Sawyer is missing. And it’s not clear if the culprit is a villain or saint. “I don’t know thought they were helping the dog,” Ellis said. “That dog was living the life.”Ellis owns a popular nursery in Winter Park where Sawyer spent his days hanging out with his dad, greeting customers. And in that spirit, Ellis took Sawyer to Sanford where he’s opening up another nursery in the old Goodyear building. That’s where Ellis left Sawyer when he went to dinner one night. Ellis said Sawyer had food, water and a bed. “And when I returned, he wasn’t there,” Ellis said. “I called for him, looked around, I looked down at the table and realized his leash was gone also.”To add to the confusion, Ellis learned someone called the police to report a “dog in distress.””So the theory is maybe someone was walking by, saw the dog in the building through the window .. and thought he was abandoned, forgotten,” Ellis said. It’s been two weeks now. “We miss him, and we love him, and we want him back,” Ellis said.
