A Brevard beach ranks as Florida’s top dog beach, among the best in the country

Want to take Fido to a beach and let your best furry friend run in the surf, dig in the sand and smell the salty air?

Lucky for you, and Fido, Brevard County recently ranked as having the best dog beach in all of Florida. Canova Beach, located at the end of Eau Gallie Blvd. in unincorporated Brevard County, is top dog for all the puppy pals.

HomeToGo’s 2025 “Best in Shore” report also lists Canova Beach as the fourth-best dog beach in the country. The study comes out as HometoGo said they are “seeing traveling with canines as a core priority for vacationers throughout the U.S.”

“Ranked according to the availbility of affordable accommodation, room to roam thanks to low crowds, and happy visitors, both you and your canine companion can enjoy the coast without compromise in these superlative seaside spots,” according to the report.

What did the study say about Brevard’s Canova Dog Beach?

The beach got praised for being well-marked.

“This Atlantic-facing spot in Brevard County offers a designated area in which leashed dogs can enjoy the sand, splash in the surf, and soak up the Florida rays. Rinse stations, pet waste bins, and shady picnic tables make it easy to stay longer without the stress. With year-round sunshine and dog-friendly parks like Gleason Park and Wickham Park just a short drive away, it’s an easygoing choice for a laid-back day by the water.”

What beaches in Brevard County allow dogs?

Canova Beach is the only Brveard County-run beach where dogs are allowed. Dogs are allowed on the beach from dawn to dusk and must be kept on a leash.

Dogs may be allowed on beaches within certain city limits if designated by proper signage. For example, Cocoa Beach permits dogs between Fourth Street South and the north side of Murkshe Park.

Dogs in that area of Cocoa Beach must:

  • Be on a leash no longer than 10 feet at all times.
  • You cannot walk along the beach to get to the designated area. You must enter at the appropriate place.
  • Dogs are only allowed on the beach 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. during standard time and 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. during daylight saving time.

What is the fine for bringing a dog in a non-designated area on Brevard’s beaches?

In Cocoa Beach, the fine is $50.

In Brevard County, fines start at $55 for the first offense and increase to $65 for multiple offenses.
