TUCSON, Ariz. – Thirty dogs from shelters in wildfire-impacted areas in Los Angeles have arrived in Tucson and are now ready to find new homes. The Humane Society of Southern Arizona is partnering with Tucson Subaru for an adoption event this Saturday.
When wildfires began in Southern California, animal shelters quickly filled up. To make room for new dogs, many were transferred to Tucson. The goal remains the same: to find them loving homes.
Bunsen Honeydew, Findi, and Pepito are among the dogs brought from Los Angeles County shelters.
“All three of these kiddos came from shelters in Los Angeles County where we transferred them in to help open up space for dogs who are in desperate need of help while the fires are going on,” said Aldo Lebel, a shelter behavior supervisor with the Humane Society.
These dogs, along with others, will be available for free adoption at the event.
“We’re having it to try and get these LA dogs into nice cushy homes. Goodness knows they deserve it after all they’ve been through from sitting in the shelters and having that long flight from LA to here. And it’s also a really great opportunity to see the dogs that we already have in the shelter in our own community that have been waiting,” Lebel added.
The adoption event will be at Tucson Subaru on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
