HOUSTON – Several dogs who lost their owner to a house fire last year have a new lease on life thanks to the work of several dog rescuers.
What we know:
Two dogs lived inside the home that burned to the ground, but they all considered Joel Bromberg to be their owner.
Joel died after his north side home caught fire in October 2024.
One of the dogs tragically died in the fire, but 10 others became a mission for Moselle Hindle and other dog rescuers.
We’re told three of the dogs were adopted.
One of the dogs had eight puppies and are now on their way to Wisconsin.
The remaining seven dogs, who are timid and skittish, are still searching for fosters or forever homes.

What they’re saying:
“We lived in a neighborhood with a lot of homeless animals,” said Joel’s widow, Martha Marks. “He ended up feeding animals who had no place to go and no hope.”
“And when the fire happened, suddenly all of these animals were homeless and found themselves in a devastating circumstance,” Martha said.
“It took about 3 months to trap them,” Moselle Hindle said.
Moselle didn’t know Joel, but that didn’t stop her from making daily one-hour trips to feed the dogs.
“Moselle has been an absolute hero my angel, a dog saint,” said Martha.
FOX 26 asked Martha what Joel would say about the pups.
“He would say to me, all I care about is save the dogs,” said Martha. “We lost everything. We didn’t have home insurance, the stuff we lost doesn’t matter. The only thing Joel would want is to save those dogs.”
