Hearts melt over the only thing rescue dog “always comes running to”

A pet parent recently posted about the unusual way she gets her dog to come over to her, and social media viewers quickly became obsessed.

Recall is when an owner calls for the dog and the canine immediately stops what it’s doing and goes over to the person. Training your dog to recall is not only convenient but potentially lifesaving, the American Kennel Club says.

But when the usual “come” command wasn’t working for one owner’s dog, her daughter learned that singing did the trick.

“My daughter discovered it first,” the owner told Newsweek via TikTok. “We couldn’t find him one day, and she sang the song and he came running.”

Now, singing—and singing only a specific song—will get the dog to come over to them. To show that he will respond only to the song, the owner filmed herself calling for Mayhem the pit bull, who was sitting in the bedroom.

In a recent TikTok clip posted to the account @kmwilliams036, she called his name and said, “Come.” Mayhem only stared at her. He wouldn’t move an inch.

She switched gears and started singing his song, “Where Is May May?,” to the tune of the French nursery rhyme song “Frère Jacques.” Mayhem immediately got up and ran over. He hopped over the couch and sat right on top of her, listening to what he considers his recall command. He “always comes running to” the song.

The caption reads: “He’s obsessed with ‘Where is Thumpkin’ what can I say?” (“Where Is Thumbkin?” is sung to the tune of “Frère Jacques.”)

The owner said the song was used to get Mayhem out from under the bed where he would hide after they first rescued him. She would sing it to him every day to get him to come out.

“Now it is our go-to when we want him to come to us,” she said.

TikTok Reacts

Mayhem’s reaction to the song struck viewers and brought in over 632,700 views and 164,440 likes on TikTok as of Monday. Viewers loved that the song worked, claiming “a recall is a recall.”

“He just wants you to sing the song lol,” joked one person.

Another added: “No one ever said recall had to be spoken it can be a song! That’s perfect!”

A third user commented: “Imagine being in a serious situation and having to sing that song to get him to you.”
