LAFAYETTE, La. — Pilots To The Rescue transported several dozen rescue dogs via airplane from various Louisiana shelters, including Lafayette, to rescues near Grand Rapids, Michigan on Friday, January 31.
This mission will bring these animals one step closer to being adopted—they will be spared from euthanasia since they will be moving from overcrowded shelters to ones up North that have more capacity.
The flight left Lafayette Regional Airport (Paul Fournet Field) around 8 a.m.
The organizations that supplied the dogs from Louisiana are the Atchafalaya River Rescue, Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office Animal Control, Friends of Mamou Shelter, and St. Landry Animal Control. The organizations that will be receiving the dogs in Michigan are the SPCA of Southwest Michigan, Harbor Humane Society, Cherryland Humane Society, and the Noah Project.
Pilots To The Rescue transports at-risk animals from under-resourced shelters and takes them to rescue and adoption centers where they can be cared for, fostered, and placed with loving families. Many of these dogs have incredible backstories and have overcome major adversity; we are grateful to help give them the opportunity for a happy life.
The mission is sponsored by BISSELL Pet Foundation, which exists to support animal welfare organizations and provide resources to underserved communities. With the crucial support of the BISSELL Pet Foundation, Pilots To The Rescue fills a critical gap in the rescue process allowing animals to be adopted and spared from euthanasia.
