SALEM, Mass. (WLNE) — The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (MSPCA-Angell) is preparing its facility to take in nine dogs affected by the Los Angeles wildfires.
The dogs will arrive in Massachusetts on January 31 and will be greeted by staff to be transported by van to the Northeast Animal Shelter in Salem.
These dogs will be coming from the Pasadena Humane Society, where they had been living before the fires started in early January.
The dog breeds include mixes of cattle dogs, pit bulls, German shepherds and hounds and are one to 10 years old.
“Obviously there’s a tremendous amount of need in the Los Angeles-area right now,” said MSPCA-Angell relocation manager Josie Waldron.
“Plenty of groups nearby stepped up to help and transported animals out of danger, but given the magnitude of the situation, more assistance is needed, and that’s where we come in.”
These dogs will be available for adoption after the passage of the state 48-hour quarantine period and receipt of any needed medical care.
If you are interested in adopting or fostering any MSPCA-Angell animals, or would like to make a donation to help offset transport and care costs, go to www.mspca.org.
