My dog’s breed is renowned for intelligence – he understands three languages

Maltipoos are the best of both worlds— combined. When a Maltese and a Poodle come together, they create one of the most intelligent and playful breeds, not to mention the cutest. I know this because I have one. Geo, 7, was the only pup in the litter who stood off to the side alone, keeping to himself, and it was at that moment I knew we were made for one another.

Geo is deeply affectionate and highly attentive to those around him. There’s no shortage of cuddles or hugs in our house—ask our friends. He also has a very particular palette. He eats an all-fish diet and is, of course, a treat-fiend. He loves pizza, which works out perfectly for us since he prefers the crust and I prefer the cheese (what can I say, I have crust issues). A true food hoarder, he collects his snacks—and occasionally dinner—and hides them throughout the apartment. Truthfully, I’m not particularly fond of the habit, but it’s fair to say he has me wrapped around his little paw.

He hates thunderstorms and fireworks, so we do our best to stay out of harm’s way on the Fourth of July. However, he loves the outdoors, especially the beach, where he can roll around in the sand. To be fair, most dogs share the qualities I’ve mentioned; however, not all dogs are trilingual.

That’s right, Geo understands three languages. English, Arabic, and Russian. I know what you’re thinking–how?! English is my native language, so that’s a no-brainer. My second language, which I often speak with family and friends, is Arabic. Over the years, he has picked up the language to the point where I can ask him to do things in Arabic, and he fully understands the commands. Russian comes courtesy of a former roommate from long ago. As her second language, she would playfully speak to him in Russian—also to the point where he picked up the commands. Years later, my boy is still as sharp as a tack.

During one of his greatest moments, he warned me about a fire in our neighbor’s house that was spreading through the hall close to ours. I was asleep when he leaped over, began barking to wake me up, and tugged at my shirt. While I’m grateful that firefighters quickly arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames, I’m reminded of how loyal my furry companion is, unwilling to leave my side.

When he’s not saving the world, stockpiling his food, or touching up on his language skills, you can find him lounging on the sofa watching Friends. That’s definitely my doing, but nothing soothes anxiety quite like a good episode of Friends. Geo doesn’t just bring joy to my life but to others as well. You’ll never catch the guy without a smile on his face. He radiates happiness, and his soul is pure. It’s true what they say– dogs are (wo)man’s best friend.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
