It wasn’t their best score of the season, but Columbus North Bob Arthur had a great reason to be pleased with the results.
The group of judges in the Bull Dogs’ meet with New Palestine were top-notch judges, but North still came away with a 108.725 to 103.4 victory over the Dragons Thursday night.
Senior Reese Euler won four events and the all-around competition to lead the Bull Dogs. Her beam routine score of 9.6 led the way to finish with an all-around score of 37.9. She also was first on the vault (9.45), bars (9.35) and the floor (9.5).
“I was really excited with my beam routine. Last week wasn’t my best, so going into today, I wanted to improve just going slower on beam and taking it skill by skill and not rushing things. I think that really helped on my beam routine,” Euler said. “I was super excited with my score. I’m doing a series this year, so it was really nice to make that because it’s a new beam routine for me. It gave me confidence that I made that again.”
“She scored over a 38 in our first meet against Franklin Central, and she was so close to getting that again tonight, like I said, with some tougher judges,” Arthur added. “She has a lot to be proud of.”
Hayden Harper finished third on the vault (9.1) and on bars (8.7) to place second in the all-around (35.425). Hannah Perry took second on the floor (9.225) and fourth on the beam (8.85) to place third in the all-around (34.825).
“The girls are moving in the right direction. I’m proud of the girls,” Arthur said. “We’re moving in the right direction. To be honest, the judging, they’re not known to be give-away judges, so I really feel good about the scores considering the group of judges we had tonight too.”
The Bull Dogs will look for more improvement when they face Conference Indiana foe Bloomington South on Jan. 30.
