Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) – A few weeks ago, the Missoula Fire Department sent a crew of four firefighters along with a Type 3 wildland engine to assist with the apocalyptic fires in southern California. Now, hundreds of highly adoptable dogs are going to be flown to Seattle, Coeur d’Alene, and Missoula to provide necessary shelter and services for impacted dogs in California.
Paws for Life K9 Rescue and Wings of Rescue are working with the Humane Society of Western Montana here in Missoula. Kristina Kirk with Paws for Life said the dogs will arrive on Sunday, January 26.
“In response to the devastating wildfires affecting the Los Angeles area, Paws for Life is continuing to join forces with Wings of Rescue to fly hundreds of adoptable dogs to partner rescue organizations in nearby states,” Kirk said. “This collaborative effort will free up critical space in the Paws for Life facility, allowing us to expand our services and provide urgent shelter to dogs displaced or impacted by the LA wildfires.”
Kirk said all dogs onboard the flights, which are being sponsored by the Annenberg PetSpace, will be available for adoption and/or fostering.
“By transferring available dogs to locations with greater adoption opportunities, we can help these animals find loving homes while addressing the immediate needs of those canines affected by this natural disaster,” Kirk said. “To date, Paws for Life has taken in more than 250 dogs affected by the devastating wildfires. The additional transport scheduled for Sunday will allow them to rescue even more animals in need.”
