They’re some of the 102 Shih Tuzs that were seized during a search of the Pleasant Hill home on New Year’s Eve.

Robert Craft, the director of the Miami County Animal Shelter, told News Center 7 that the environment the dogs were found living in was “pretty bad.”

“Over the years, urinating and defecating in the house. It was pretty bad,” Craft said.

The dogs’ owner, identified as Nancy Snow, had been breeding the animals.

“She was selling the dogs and a person came to purchase one of the dogs, and they were worried about the conditions of the home,” Craft said. “And they reached out to us.”

The phone call led to a search warrant and the large seizure of the dogs.

“She had more and more of them that didn’t get adopted and those puppies then matured and were breeding, creating the problem that we encountered,” he explained.

This month, the shelter has been getting the dogs healthy and ready for adoption. Today, 23 were ready for a new home.

“We had a line of people to adopt the dogs this morning when we came in at 8 a.m.,” Craft said, noting that he expected all 23 to be adopted today.

Craft told News Center 7 that more dogs will be up for adoption in the coming weeks. In the meantime, the shelter is working to socialize the puppies, knowing soon they’ll have a home and hopefully won’t be scared.

Shelter officials said Snow pleaded guilty to two counts of animal cruelty and neglect. She’s expected to be sentenced next month.
