Companions Animal Center will receive several small dogs from Los Angeles shelters as they continue to navigate overcrowding due to the LA wildfires.
HAYDEN, Idaho — Companions Animal Center (CAC) in Hayden is preparing to receive dogs from Los Angeles as shelters continue to navigate overcrowding due to wildfires in the area.
CAC says it has been communicating with rescue agencies in the greater Los Angeles area and says it is planning to accept small dogs on Sunday, Jan. 26. The shelter says its local small dog population is extremely low and there are no small dogs on a waitlist, meaning they have room to aid the LA shelters.
CAC says it also currently has a surrender waitlist for large breed community dogs needing new homes and the large dog kennels are full.
Dogs from the Los Angeles shelters that are being transferred are ones that were in the shelters before the fires and are being transferred to facilities across the United States. CAC says it is committed to doing its part to assist during this unprecedented crisis.
CAC says it will release information about breed, age, medical conditions and availability once the dogs arrive in Hayden.
Those interested in adopting animals or donating to help the shelter accommodate these animals can visit the CAC website or Facebook page.
