Florida firefighters rescue dogs from burning home

Firefighters came to the rescue to save two dogs caught in a burning Florida home on Sunday.

Reports show the fire took place around 3:23 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19, at the 90th block of Pecan Drive in Ocala.

The Marion County Fire Rescue said the two dogs, Oreo and Bella, were rescued and treated with oxygen.

Officials said the cause and origin of the fire remains under investigation.

How did the fire start?

What we know:

Marion County Fire Rescue units said they were dispatched to the area referencing a structure fire.

Reports show a home monitoring security service alerted the Public Safety Communications Center of smoke alarms going off in the home.

Firefighters stated smoke was billowing from the roof and eves of the house when crews arrived at the scene.

Officials said the firefighters quickly deployed a hoseline and forced entry through the front door, where they found black smoke banked down to the floor. 

Additional firefighters also arrived at the scene to help, reports show.

The rescue units said they quickly put out the blaze, while rescue crews began both primary and secondary searches.

Reports show neighbors had alerted the firefighters that two dogs were in the home, and a cat was inside the garage. 

Firefighters said they were able to rescue the two dogs and began treating them with oxygen. 

Fortunately, no one was at home at the time of the fire, officials stated.

Reports show the fire was called under control at 3:35 p.m.
