A nine-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs at Dhingi village in Nabha here today.
Ram, a migrant labourer, and his family were harvesting potatoes in the fields. His son was wandering at some distance when he was attacked by nearly 10 stray dogs.
The child was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Nabha in a critical condition, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Balwinder Singh Bittu, president, Congress (rural), Nabha, said, “Just three days ago, a pack of dogs and attacked and injured a cow. Stray dogs have instilled a sense of fear among villagers. The authorities concerned should address the issue at the earliest.”
Nabha SDM Ishmat Vijay Singh said a report sought from District Development and Panchayat Officer (DDPO) in the matter was awaited. As many as 20,999 incidents of dog bite were reported from Patiala district last year.
