ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) – A dog named Sashi seen being beaten on video has been surrendered to Albemarle County’s animal protection unit.
According to an Albemarle County Police Department social media post, the owner voluntarily surrendered Sashi to the county on January 17. A neighbor’s security camera captured that owner brutally beating Sashi on January 6, grabbing the attention of local animal welfare advocates, law enforcement and concerned community members.
County authorities took Sashi to a licensed veterinarian for a physical exam, which determined the dog is in good health and without any life-threatening injuries, according to the Albemarle Police post.
On January 15, Albemarle Police told 29News they had charged the man with a class 1 misdemeanor for animal cruelty, failure to have a dog license and failure to have a rabies vaccination.
“The criminal charges placed in this case are still pending court appearance,” according to the Albemarle Police post.
