DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. (WHP) — A man and his two dogs were rescued Saturday after becoming stranded on an island in the Susquehanna River.
Chief Shane Swenson with the Dauphin-Middle Paxton Fire Company said the man was kayaking when he stopped on an island in the middle of the river with his two dogs.
While on the island, the kayak floated away and he became stranded.
Fire crews launched a boat around 11:20am off of Towpath Road and were able to successfully rescue the man and his dogs.
Chief Swenson said the man was checked out by EMS on scene but was injured and able to go home.
The rescue lasted just over an hour altogether.
