Viewers were brought to tears after an owner decided to keep several of a mama dog’s puppies and raise them as sheepdogs.
Robin McNaught has been surrounded by dogs since he was a child. As a fourth-generation sheepdog handler in Wales, the training genes run strong in him. However, it wasn’t until his first dog to call his own did he know he wanted to keep training dogs.
He spent the COVID-19 lockdown working day in and day out training his border collie, Tlws, a Welsh word meaning “pretty” or a “prize of great value,” according to McNaught’s website. The bond he created with his dog ultimately changed his life’s trajectory. He wanted nothing to do with training dogs until Tlws.
Because of his love for Tlws, he decided to keep four puppies from her litter, which he explained in his recent TikTok clip posted to the account @robinmcnaught. Now, they’re in their “forever home” with their mom and doggy siblings, and McNaught has been training them to be sheepdogs.
“Originally, it was only going to be one or two, but I changed my university plans, which meant I could keep more,” he told Newsweek.
In the clip, you can see these puppies living their best lives. They get the freedom to roam around a big yard. They’re happily rolling in the grass and interacting with sheep.
These pups hold a special place in McNaught’s heart as they are his “first personal litter.”
“It’s the first time for me training multiple sheepdogs at once,” he said. “But I’m glad I did.”
As for Tlws’ other five puppies, McNaught said that the dogs now live across the United Kingdom and Ireland. They’re all “living amazing lives” and work as sheep and cowdogs.
