America’s favorite unofficial holiday, the Super Bowl, is right around the corner.
In addition to the football, snacks and halftime show, the annual Puppy Bowl is another fan-favorite event to look forward to on the first Sunday of February.
While the Super Bowl is in its 59th year, Animal Planet has been hosting the Puppy Bowl for the past 20 years. Four puppies from across the Valley will be competing on two teams this year for the esteemed “Lobarky Trophy”.
Team Fluff and Team Ruff will go head-to-head in the feel-good sports competition on Sunday, Feb. 9, at noon Arizona time on Animal Planet.
In addition to the game, the sixteen starting line up players will compete for the title of “Most Pupular” in the “Pupularity Playoffs.” Viewers can vote for their favorite furry football player each week online in a bracket-style playoff.
Meet the players from the Grand Canyon State so you know who to root for.
When is the 2025 Puppy Bowl?
The Puppy Bowl will take place on Sunday, Feb. 9, at noon Arizona time on Animal Planet.
Delulu and Jake from Arizona Humane Society
Delulu and Jake (now named Larry and Finn, respectively) are brothers and future teammates. The puppy pair was rescued with their mom by the Arizona Humane Society in June 2024. This sweet family received care in the rescue’s Mutternity Suites until they were cleared to go into a loving home.
Jake is an adorable Shih Tzu and Maltese mix representing Team Ruff. His adopter told the Arizona Humane Society that “(Jake) is the light of our lives and brings so much joy and laughter to my husband and I!”
Jake is great with the kids, cat and other dog in his fur-ever home. His owners said they were “Smitten, as is everyone who has met and interacted with (Jake) on walks and play dates.”
Delulu, also a shih tzu and maltese mix, loves to spend time with his new siblings — two Maltipoos and two tortoises — in his forever home. His owners told the Arizona Humane Society he is also adored by his human siblings.
Delulu lives a happy life full of treats, toys and snuggles. Keep an eye out for Delulu and his brother on Team Ruff.
Felicity from Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue
Felicity is a 6-month-old doberman pinscher on Team Fluff. She was pregnant when she was rescued by Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue. She had ingested a toy and developed an obstruction, so the rescue took her in with her pups and made sure she got surgery.
Christy Cole, executive director of Desert Harbor Doberman Rescue, said, “(Felicity), true to her breed, is a working dog. She thrives when she has a job to do.”
This athletic puppy loves to socialize with people and other dogs. Felicity’s drive will make her a “pupball” star, Cole told The Republic. Her huge paws also help her pick up speed quickly, making her a player to look out for.
Akimel from the NAGI Foundation
The Chow Chow and American pit bull terrier mix was rescued by the NAGI Foundation, an organization that provides animal health services and other resources to support Native American communities. Kimel is on Team Fluff.
